Photo Review: Sander Van Doorn at Glow

Whoa, I just realized I haven’t updated you guys with any photo reviews since Ferry Corsten killed it with Club Glow January 1st. As my friends would say…”that’s bollocks!”  So why don’t we go ahead and start with this set from Sander Van Doorn’s visit on February 5th. Sure, I posted galleries of Morgan Page, Avicii, Glenn Morrison and Cosmic Gate - all who visited DC in January. But something interesting happened during that month that changed my photography for the better. You guessed it, I got a new camera. I upgraded to the Nikon D300s and picked up the battery grip for even more control and rapid fire speed. What has happened with my photography has been pretty darn exciting, if I may say so myself. See more photos after the break…

Truthfully, I’m very humble about my abilities as a photographer. I photograph these world-class artists because I love their music and I love showing the world what I get to see…and hear. But I’m also dedicated to getting better at it and presenting images of DJs and parties that go beyond the standard “smile, you’re being photographed” party images we’re all used to seeing. In other words, I see my photography as art and want to make it the best it can be. Having a new camera has allowed me to improve my skills as well as to explore a world without flash. You’ll notice it in some of these images and even more as I post more recent galleries. The D300s has one of the top processors for a DX camera and so shooting with higher ISOs in low light creates much richer and less grainy images. And having the new grip on the camera seems to steady my shot even more when needed. This particular night was important to me because I have the utmost respect for Sander Van Doorn and his publicist Sara Cooper. So I absolutely wanted to capture some quality shots.

The image at the top is clearly my favorite. Word from Sara is the black & white close-up was their favorite. The vertical image of Glow Girl Alina is probably one of the most stunning non-DJ shot I’ve taken at Fur. And as usual, I love the usual photo directly behind the DJ that captures some of the insane lasers of DC’s megaclub. I also tried a new angle out to give you a different look at what these amazing DJs are doing in the booth. Enjoy the shots and please feel free to give me some feedback/criticism.
